The delicate vanilla orchid must be pollinated within 12 hours of its initial bloom if it is to produce any fruit. The chances of it being pollinated in the wild are less than 1%, so people have taken over the job and are now the number one pollinator of the orchid. Native to Mexico, it is now produced in Madagascar more than anywhere else. See more of vanilla’s story here: Vanilla
