How can I find out her ring size?
Some of the sizing methods below are more accurate than others, and some maintain the element of surprise better. Decide which option is best for you and don’t forget that we are always happy to resize a ring if it’s not quite right on the first try.

Other women that your lady knows can be a great source of info. Ask a friend, a sister or mother, they may already know, or they may be able to find out in a discreet way.

Sometimes, you can borrow a ring that she already wears and measure that. You can either take that ring to a jeweler to size it, or lay a string along the inner circumference. The string method won’t be as accurate as a jeweler, but sometimes just getting in the ballpark is good enough. Check out the chart below to convert the circumference to a ring size.

Taking her on a trip to your local jewelry store is a fun way to get a very accurate size. The element of surprise is diminished, but talking with a jeweler can give you confidence and may even answer a few questions.
Which finger would she put a new ring on?
Does she like more extravagant styles or daintier pieces?
Does she love silver or does she crave a gold ring?

Email us at info@shademetals.com with your address and we will mail you a plastic strip that you can use to measure her finger. It’s not as accurate as a jeweler’s measurement, but it does a fairly good job of estimating.

Sizing your fingers is made more complicated by the constant swelling and shrinking of fingers due to diet, sleep, and the weather.
In the morning your fingers tend to be a little larger than they will be at mid-day. If you’ve had alcohol or a lot of salt the previous day they can swell. Heat makes them swell and cold makes them shrink.
Keep these variables in mind when you are getting a ring size. If you can, measure the finger more than once to assure accuracy.
