Eucalyptus trees have radiating fringy flowers that produce little capsule fruits. When the fruit matures, the crosshatch splits open and its tiny seeds emerge.
As this tree is native to Australia and the South Pacific, we picked up our seed capsules with a fragrant bundle bought at Whole Foods. We molded the top slice of a few capsules and cast the crosshatch section, making little button studs.
